After more than 40 years in the Minneapolis area, I moved back to the PNW in 2024, and have been delighted to join such a vibrant and welcoming arts scene. I have been playing around with glass for over 25 years. I started with traditional stained-glass pieces, which I still love to create, and moved into mosaics and then fused glass. Each of these art forms requires a different set of skills and highlights the unique qualities of this medium in special ways. With stained-glass pieces, I can create custom windows designed specifically for someone that will fit perfectly into a window or space. Mosaics are a tedious but rewarding use of glass and can be surprisingly artistic when rendering an image. It’s almost like “paint-by-number” with little glass slivers. Glass fusing, also known as “warm glass” is extremely varied in style and technique and requires some patience while learning how glass responds to heat. There is a certain amount of trust when committing a piece into the kiln, not a small amount of swearing, and a lot of “c’est la vie” when things don’t come out as expected. I teach classes in all three of these glass techniques and find that to be extremely rewarding. I offer my classes through The Jansen Art Center in Lynden with some classes held in my Mount Vernon studio and others in Lynden.
